Oh Holy One, you know our every thought, every desire, every hidden movement of our heart. By your grace, teach us to guard ourselves from the darkness that rises within us and to open our eyes to your light.
For God is not somewhere outside us, waiting to be stumbled upon. God is here—nearer than we imagine, dwelling within the deepest places of our being. The spiritual journey is not a search for an absent God but an awakening to the God who is waiting within.
We must learn to open our eyes to that light—the light that exposes what is false, drives out the darkness, and draws us toward love.
There is an ancient story of a seeker who travels great distances searching for God, only to discover that the One sought has been present all along.
Perhaps God and we are something like the sun and its light, the ocean and the wave, the singer and the song. Not one. Not two. Distinct, yet inseparable in communion. We live every moment within the presence of God. The tragedy is not that God is absent, but that we so often fail to notice. (Sr Joan)
Open my eyes, Lord. Open my heart. Open my mind.
Let me recognize the light shining within. Open my eyes to your love.
